Prosthesis and Orthosis production and distribution is another major activity under the physical rehabilitation service. The main theme of this service is to design, make and supply equipment needed for disabled person, to improve their ability or day to day care, using either locally available materials or imported. It has long experience in production of orthopedic appliances and assistive devices for the disabled persons through its own orthopedic workshop at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu.
Handicap International (HI) Nepal has been providing direct technical and material support, advice and guidance to NDF in the development of Prosthetic and Orthotic workshop and physiotherapy room in the Rehabilitation Centre. HI also supported Porsthetist /Orthostist to strengthen capacity of local technicians and also to ensure quality service delivery. The general objective of the project is to ensure long term functioning of quality physical rehabilitation services, accessible for all –especially for isolated and vulnerable persons living with physical disabilities. Other services such as wheelchairs, walkers and crutches are primarily used for mobility purposes (standing and walking) are also available under this project scheme. Developmental aids provide postural support to an imbalanced body and assist to develop a person’s different activities are also supported to the Persons with Disabilities.
